ABOUT
UnMüted Pop-Up Biergartens (eventually to become Müted Biergarten, a brand of GMLK Brewing Company) will be headed by CEO Andrew Parr. Andrew first traveled to Germany at age 16 on an exchange program. While on the program, he tasted his first beers, and they remain some of the best beers he tasted. Later, he would become a successful English and theatre teacher and established a 501(c)(3) to facilitate a German exchange program for his students. After several successful exchanges, five years of teaching, and directing/producing large scale productions such as West Side Story, Hairspray, and the Baltimore Theatre Awards at the Hippodrome, he left his position and began working in sales for a study abroad company. He also became a certified life coach and traveled around the U.S. visiting universities and would retire to local breweries in the evening. During COVID-19, he rearranged some of his goals, formed an LLC for his coaching business, and applied for and received the Ratcliffe scholarship to pursue an entrepreneurship degree at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC).
One of his first coaching clients was his brother. While sipping beers and talking about career choices, Andrew kept encouraging his brother Tyler to pursue a brewing career. Tyler found another opportunity, but Andrew was disappointed that someone in the family would not be working at a brewery. This led to a moment of self-reflection. Andrew started envisioning his own brewery and researched everything he could about the industry.
He began to make plans and applied for the best brewing program in the U.S. at the University of California, Davis and was accepted for the 2021 Program. He completed his Master Brewing Certification in June 2021. He continues work full-time as an Enrollment Manager for AIFS Abroad, life coach, and take classes at AACC. As a queer entrepreneur, Andrew will prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in his business and ensure differences are celebrated and honored.
